MPs seek faster SCR railway projects and new trains

Hyderabad: Members of Parliament from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on Thursday urged South Central Railway to accelerate SCR railway projects and introduce new trains to improve connectivity.

The MPs also sought new railway lines, additional train stoppages and extensions of existing services. They raised demands for road overbridges, road underbridges and improved passenger amenities in their constituencies.

South Central Railway held the meeting with the MPs at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad to discuss railway development and passenger services.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and 15 MPs attended the meeting. SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, Additional General Manager Satya Prakash and other senior railway officials also participated.

SCR railway projects worth Rs 24,210 crore under way

Srivastava briefed the MPs about SCR’s performance across passenger and freight operations. He also outlined progress in station redevelopment, infrastructure and passenger amenities.

The General Manager highlighted digital and green initiatives, security measures and other development works undertaken by the railway zone. He said SCR had maintained its development momentum after its reorganisation in June 2026.

Following the restructuring, South Central Railway comprised the Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Nanded divisions. Srivastava said 40 railway stations across Telangana were being redeveloped at a cost exceeding Rs 2,000 crore.

Four stations developed under the Amrit station programme had already been inaugurated. These were Hi-Tech City, Begumpet, Karimnagar and Warangal stations.

Meanwhile, new railway lines and doubling and tripling projects covering 1,481 km were under implementation. According to the General Manager, the ongoing SCR railway projects involved an investment of Rs 24,210.179 crore.

MPs seek new trains under SCR railway projects push

During the meeting, MPs presented constituency-specific demands to senior railway officials. They sought additional railway lines and new train services to strengthen connectivity. Moreover, they requested additional stoppages for existing trains at stations in their constituencies.

The parliamentarians also proposed extensions of train services to provide better travel options to passengers. Their demands included construction of road overbridges and road underbridges. In addition, they sought improvements in passenger amenities at railway stations.

The MPs asked South Central Railway to speed up ongoing infrastructure works and ensure their completion within targeted timelines. Srivastava assured them that SCR would give priority to their suggestions.

Where proposals required decisions from other railway authorities, SCR would forward them to the appropriate authorities for consideration, he said. The meeting focused on improving passenger services while accelerating SCR railway projects across the zone’s jurisdiction.
