Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy directs officials to stay on high alert amid heavy rains
Hyderabad: Revenue, Disaster Management, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy issued a Ponguleti heavy rains alert and directed officials to remain on high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast widespread heavy rainfall across Telangana.
During a teleconference with Revenue and Disaster Management officials on Thursday, the Minister reviewed the rainfall situation over the past two days and assessed preparedness for the expected rain over the next 48 hours.
He instructed district-level revenue officials to coordinate with all government departments and remain available in the field to respond to emergencies.
Ponguleti heavy rains alert focuses on preparedness
The Minister directed officials to continuously monitor conditions in districts likely to receive heavy rainfall. He also asked them to strengthen safety measures near streams, lakes, tanks and reservoirs.
He instructed authorities to alert residents in vulnerable areas. If necessary, officials should shift them to safer locations or rehabilitation centres without delay.
Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy directed District Collectors to work closely with the Police, Panchayat Raj, Municipal Administration, Electricity, Irrigation and Health departments. He asked them to respond immediately to any emergency and ensure timely relief measures.
The Minister also reviewed the situation in Hyderabad. He directed HYDRAA, GHMC and Traffic Police to coordinate closely to prevent disruptions to transport, electricity and drinking water supply. He stressed that the agencies should minimise inconvenience to the public during the rain spell.
Ponguleti heavy rains alert after red warning
Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the state’s rainfall deficit of nearly 30 per cent until four days ago had almost returned to normal after the heavy rain received over the past two days.
Referring to the IMD forecast, he said heavy to extremely heavy rainfall was likely on July 30 and 31. Therefore, the government issued weather alerts for several districts. The Minister said Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Jagtial districts were placed under a Red Alert.
He added that Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts were under an Orange Alert. The Minister instructed district collectors in rain-affected areas to remain vigilant and implement preventive measures to ensure public safety.
