Hyderabad: India was scheduled to host the second BRICS anti-corruption meeting in Hyderabad on August 4 and 5 under its BRICS Presidency 2026.
The Department of Personnel and Training organised the two-day programme. It included the second meeting of the BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group and the BRICS Expert Network on Asset Recovery.
Officials said the programme followed the theme of India’s BRICS Presidency, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” Department of Personnel and Training Secretary Rachna Shah was scheduled to inaugurate the meeting. Delegates from BRICS member countries were expected to attend the event.
Senior policymakers, experts, practitioners and representatives of anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies were also expected to participate.
BRICS anti-corruption meeting to focus on asset recovery
The Hyderabad meeting followed the first BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group meeting. Member countries had held that meeting virtually on June 2 and 3, 2026.
During the second meeting, BRICS members were expected to discuss stronger international cooperation on asset recovery. They were also set to examine measures against cross-border corruption.
In addition, the deliberations were expected to focus on transparency and accountability in governance. The agenda included informal cooperation for tracing fugitives wanted in corruption cases. Members were also expected to discuss support for extradition proceedings.
Furthermore, delegates were set to examine stronger information-sharing and operational coordination. The BRICS Expert Network on Asset Recovery was expected to support those efforts.
Participants were also expected to exchange experiences on corruption risks linked to financial technology. The discussions covered digital assets and emerging digital financial instruments. Officials said the meeting aimed to convert policy discussions into practical cooperation among BRICS members.
BRICS anti-corruption meeting includes technology side event
Organisers also scheduled a side event titled “Ethical Governance through Innovation and Tech-Driven Systems” for August 5.
The session was expected to provide a platform for BRICS members to exchange governance practices. It covered digital public procurement, citizen engagement, transparency and accountability.
Delegates were also set to discuss technology-based systems that could strengthen integrity in public administration. The side event aimed to highlight how innovation could improve government processes. It also focused on using digital systems to reduce corruption risks.
According to organisers, the Hyderabad programme reflected India’s commitment to practical cooperation among BRICS countries. India sought to advance that cooperation through dialogue, shared experiences and joint initiatives.
The meeting was the final Anti-Corruption Working Group programme under India’s BRICS Presidency 2026. Therefore, officials expected it to consolidate the progress made during the year. It was also expected to support continued cooperation among BRICS members.
The proposed areas of cooperation included asset recovery, action against cross-border corruption and technology-enabled governance. Institutional capacity-building also formed part of the agenda.
The BRICS anti-corruption meeting was expected to lay the groundwork for sustained coordination after India completed its presidency-related programme.
