Telangana plans AI Tribal Innovation Mission for digital empowerment

Hyderabad: Tribal Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar on Friday said the Telangana government was preparing to launch the AI Tribal Innovation Mission to promote digital empowerment in tribal communities.

Addressing a high-level review meeting at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat, the minister said the government aimed to move tribal welfare beyond conventional welfare programmes towards technology-driven development.

He said the initiative was part of the state government’s broader vision under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to improve the living standards of tribal communities through innovation and inclusive growth.

The minister stated that the government wanted to take tribal communities “from forests to artificial intelligence” and make them partners in Digital Telangana.

AI Tribal Innovation Mission to strengthen education

Adluri Laxman Kumar said the government would introduce AI-based education systems to provide global opportunities for tribal students.

He said authorities planned to provide virtual teachers and digital tutors in rural tribal areas. Additionally, students would receive AI-based mock tests and career guidance for competitive examinations.

The minister said the government aimed to equip every tribal student with digital and AI skills.

He added that AI systems would identify learning gaps among students and support special training programmes. The government will also develop e-learning content in tribal languages.

Furthermore, officials plan to establish smart classrooms in Ekalavya and Ashram schools.

AI Tribal Innovation Mission to expand healthcare access

The minister said the government would introduce AI-based telemedicine services in remote tribal villages.

He said authorities planned to monitor the health of pregnant women and children through AI-enabled systems.

Officials will also introduce AI diagnostic systems for early disease detection and AI health screening in mobile medical units.

Additionally, the government plans to identify malnutrition cases through AI systems and provide immediate nutrition support.

The minister said officials would prepare village-wise health mapping and create awareness through AI chatbots in local tribal languages.

AI Tribal Innovation Mission to create employment opportunities

Adluri Laxman Kumar said the government wanted tribal youth to emerge as job creators instead of job seekers.

He said tribal farmers would receive AI-based agricultural advice and weather alerts.

The minister added that AI platforms would provide market price information for minor forest produce.

The government also plans to support tribal women’s groups through digital marketing and connect bamboo products, handicrafts and forest products with e-commerce platforms.

Officials will introduce AI-based skill mapping to improve employment opportunities for tribal youth through a Tribal Startup Ecosystem.

AI Tribal Innovation Mission to set up coding labs

The minister said the Tribal Welfare and IT departments would jointly implement the AI Tribal Innovation Mission.

He said the government would establish AI and Coding Labs in every tribal gurukul institution.

The minister added that Telangana would utilise Hyderabad’s AI ecosystem to build a Tribal Tech Ecosystem.

Moreover, the government plans to establish Tribal Digital Training Centres with CSR support from IT companies.

These centres will provide training in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Coding for tribal youth.

The minister also announced special AI internship programmes for tribal youth.

Santosh, Bhadrachalam Project Officer Rahul, Utnoor Project Officer Manda Makarandu, Eturnagaram Project Officer Lenin Vatsal Toppo, Plain Area Project Officer V. Sarveshwar Reddy, TCR&TI Director Dr V. Samujwala, SE Hemalatha and other officials attended the meeting.
