Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS deputy floor leader Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government had replaced welfare programmes with Welfare schemes scams and failed to fulfil major promises made to various sections of society.
Addressing an extended-level party workers’ meeting at Alganur village in Manakondur constituency of Karimnagar district on Tuesday, Harish Rao accused the government of neglecting the interests of farmers, students, youth and weaker sections. He also alleged that people were facing additional financial burdens through increased taxes and charges.
Welfare schemes scams allegation dominates Harish Rao speech
Harish Rao said BRS workers in Manakondur had played a significant role during the Telangana movement. He noted that the constituency had remained a strong base for the party since its formation in 2001. The BRS leader also alleged that authorities were registering politically motivated cases against party leaders and workers.
Furthermore, he claimed the government had shifted its focus away from welfare programmes. According to Harish Rao, Welfare schemes scams had emerged in multiple sectors, including Civil Supplies, Singareni, power and land transactions. He also alleged irregularities in welfare initiatives implemented through Gurukul institutions.
Welfare schemes scams charge linked to Gurukul tenders
Harish Rao raised concerns over tenders issued for supplies in Gurukul institutions.
He alleged that contracts worth nearly ₹1,200 crore for uniforms and shoes were awarded under questionable circumstances. In addition, he claimed that food supply tenders worth around ₹800 crore also faced scrutiny. The BRS leader said the details of some tenders were allegedly unclear even to ministers concerned with the departments.
As a result, he argued that the government needed to provide greater transparency in procurement processes. The Welfare schemes scams allegation, he said, reflected broader governance concerns.
Welfare schemes scams claim extended to farm support
Harish Rao also criticised the government’s handling of the Rythu Bandhu programme. He alleged that farmers had missed three instalments of financial assistance. According to him, the government owed farmers nearly ₹19,000 crore under the scheme.
Moreover, he claimed that delays in support payments had affected the farming community. The BRS leader urged the government to address pending dues and fulfil commitments made to farmers. BRS leaders Gangula Kamalakar, Jeevan Reddy, MLC L. Ramana, MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, former MLA Rasamayi Balakishan and party workers attended the meeting.
