Telangana to form Hamali Welfare Board, says Minister Vivek

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will constitute a special committee to facilitate the establishment of a Hamali Welfare Board aimed at improving the welfare and social security of hamali workers across the state, Labour and Mines Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkataswamy announced.

The Minister said the committee would include government officials, representatives of hamali associations, trade union leaders and subject experts. He added that the government would seek suggestions from stakeholders before finalising the structure of the proposed board.

Hamali Welfare Board to address key worker concerns

Vivek Venkataswamy said the proposed Hamali Welfare Board would focus on issues affecting manual loading workers. The board would examine matters related to worker welfare, minimum wages, identity cards, insurance coverage and social security benefits.

According to the Minister, the government intends to create a strong and effective institutional mechanism to safeguard the interests of hamali workers. He stressed that workers play an important role in the economy and deserve recognition, protection and welfare support. Furthermore, he urged all hamali workers to register with the relevant authorities to access government welfare schemes.

Hamali Welfare Board linked to housing and insurance benefits

The Minister said hamali workers currently receive accidental death insurance coverage of ₹2 lakh. This assistance provides financial support to families affected by workplace accidents. In addition, he said the government was considering further welfare measures for workers in the sector.

Vivek Venkataswamy also emphasised the importance of extending housing benefits to eligible workers. He appealed for the sanction of Indiramma houses to all qualified hamali workers under the state’s housing programme.

According to him, the housing scheme would help provide a dignified life for labour families. The proposed Hamali Welfare Board is expected to play a role in identifying and addressing such welfare requirements.

Hamali Welfare Board initiative backed by registration drive

The Minister encouraged workers to enrol in the Indira Jeevan Bheema scheme. He said the programme offers insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh and strengthens financial security for workers’ families. Moreover, he reiterated the government’s commitment to improving living conditions and social protection for labourers.

The meeting was attended by Legislative Council member Prof. Kodandaram and representatives of hamali workers, including Venkat Reddy, Kanaganti Ravanna, Srinivas Reddy and Kaleem. The government expects stakeholder consultations to guide the formation of the Hamali Welfare Board and shape future welfare policies for workers.
