Hyderabad: BRS leaders submitted a memorandum containing seven Karimnagar violence demands to Telangana DGP C. V. Anand over recent attacks on party leaders and offices in Karimnagar.
Several BRS MLAs and MLCs met the DGP on Friday. They alleged that law and order had deteriorated across the state.
The delegation complained about the attack on the car of BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy. They also raised concerns over the attack on his camp office in Karimnagar on Thursday.
Moreover, BRS leaders alleged that Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar was linked to the violence. Therefore, they demanded that police add his name as an accused in the FIR. They also sought enhanced security for Kaushik Reddy.
Karimnagar violence demands include FIR against Bandi Sanjay
In the memorandum, BRS representatives recalled that party working president K. T. Rama Rao visited Karimnagar on May 4. He had gone there to meet victims of an armed robbery at a jewellery shop.
Furthermore, the party claimed repeated incidents exposed the failure of local police in maintaining law and order.
BRS leaders demanded immediate inclusion of Bandi Sanjay Kumar in the FIR linked to the Karimnagar violence. They also sought separate cases over his alleged objectionable remarks against K.T. Rama Rao.
In addition, the party asked authorities to hand over the probe to an impartial senior officer. Leaders urged police to record statements from the victim MLA and eyewitnesses within a fixed timeline.
Karimnagar violence demands seek action against police officials
BRS leaders also demanded stronger security for party offices and leaders, especially Padi Kaushik Reddy and others facing possible threats.
Meanwhile, the memorandum sought criminal and disciplinary action against Karimnagar police officials. The party alleged that officers failed to prevent the violence on May 7. It also accused officials of mishandling the FIR.
Additionally, BRS sought action against officers over the May 4 jewellery shop shooting and robbery incident.
The party further requested directions to all police stations to register complaints filed by BRS leaders and workers without bias or delay.
Finally, BRS urged the DGP to issue a circular stressing political neutrality in policing. The party also warned against misuse of the police machinery for political purposes.
