Hyderabad: The Mancherial farmers death incident claimed four lives after a tin shed collapsed at a paddy procurement centre in Lakshmepet municipality limits during heavy rain and strong winds.
Farmers were guarding heaps of paddy at the procurement centre during the night. Suddenly, strong winds and heavy rain lashed the area, forcing them to protect the grain from getting soaked.
During the chaos, powerful winds brought down a nearby tin shed on the farmers. Venkatesh, Abhiram, Lachanna and Nagaraju suffered severe injuries and died on the spot.
Meanwhile, four other farmers sustained serious injuries in the accident. Local residents and police personnel rushed to the spot after receiving information and launched rescue operations.
Mancherial farmers death shocks local villages
Officials shifted the injured farmers to the Lakshmepet government hospital for treatment. Later, doctors referred them to a hospital in Karimnagar for advanced treatment. Reports said their condition remained critical.
Heavy winds and rain also disrupted normal life in several parts of Lakshmepet and nearby areas. Large trees collapsed on roads, while electric poles fell in multiple locations.
As a result, several areas in the mandal plunged into darkness. Fallen trees also disrupted traffic movement in the region.
Local farmers demanded immediate assistance from the government for the families of the deceased farmers. They also sought compensation for crop losses caused by the heavy rain and strong winds.
