Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kavitha Kalvakuntla accused the Congress government of negligence over the Mancherial farmer deaths linked to delayed paddy procurement.
Kavitha expressed grief over the deaths of four farmers in Lakshmipet mandal of Mancherial district. The farmers died after a wall collapsed during unseasonal rain late at night.
According to her, nearly 15 farmers had gathered in Kothur and Gampalpalli villages to protect paddy stocks from rain.
She alleged that procurement delays forced farmers to stay near grain stocks during heavy rain and strong winds.
Mancherial farmer deaths spark demand for compensation
Kavitha claimed that seven farmers died within a week because of procurement delays across Telangana.
She demanded immediate ex gratia for the families of the deceased farmers. She also urged the government to compensate families affected by procurement-related deaths.
The Telangana Rakshana Sena chief further demanded that the state speed up paddy procurement during the ongoing Yasangi season.
