Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K. T. Rama Rao on Wednesday warned the Congress government to procure every grain produced by farmers or face intensified protests across Telangana.
The meeting marked four years since the Congress announced its farmers’ declaration in Warangal. KTR alleged that the promises made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had remained unfulfilled.
He accused the Congress government of betraying farmers and reviving an agrarian crisis in Telangana. KTR questioned whether the government would procure crops or face the anger of 70 lakh farmers. He warned that protests would intensify if procurement continued to face delays.
Crop procurement delay triggers BRS attack
KTR said the government had failed to implement major assurances, including farm loan waivers, financial support, crop bonuses, and adequate fertiliser supply. He alleged that the government was deliberately delaying procurement to avoid paying bonuses to farmers.
He urged farmers not to lose hope or resort to suicides. Instead, he called on them to hold the government accountable through collective resistance. KTR also appealed to farmers to question elected representatives at the village level over unfulfilled promises.
Targeting Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, KTR said the government must immediately respond to farmers’ distress. Otherwise, it would face strong resistance from the farming community.
He expressed concern over recent farmer deaths and blamed the government for failing to address the ongoing agrarian crisis.
Crop procurement delay and farmer issues worsen
Highlighting the situation in Telangana, KTR said farmers were struggling with lack of procurement, pending dues, fertiliser shortages, and irregular power supply. He accused the government of focusing on publicity and events instead of solving farmers’ problems.
The BRS leader demanded unconditional procurement of all crops, implementation of the Warangal farmers’ declaration, completion of farm loan waivers, clearance of pending dues, and compensation for families of deceased farmers.
The Rythu Sangrama Sabha also adopted several resolutions supporting farmers and increased pressure on the Congress government to take immediate action.
