Hyderabad: BJP MP Eatala Rajender alleged that procurement delays across Telangana had pushed farmers into severe distress due to the Congress government’s failure to conduct timely grain purchases.
Eatala Rajender made the remarks after visiting the grain procurement centre at Gunjapadugu in Manthani Rural of Peddapalli district as part of the BJP’s “Rythu Gosa – BJP Bharosa” yatra.
The BJP MP said party MPs, MLAs and MLCs led by BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheswar Reddy witnessed difficult conditions at procurement centres during the past three days.
According to Eatala, heaps of paddy, maize and sunflower crops remained unattended at IKP and PACS centres because of shortages of gunny bags, labourers and transport vehicles.
Procurement delays trigger farmer losses
Eatala Rajender alleged that untimely rains damaged harvested grain stocks at procurement centres across the state.
He also claimed that many farmers were facing financial pressure and mental stress because authorities delayed procurement operations.
The BJP MP demanded immediate transportation of grain stocks to rice mills to prevent further crop losses.
Eatala further urged the government to act against rice millers allegedly imposing excessive tare deductions during procurement.
BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheswar Reddy also criticised the government over procurement operations.
He alleged that official procurement figures did not match the actual ground situation at procurement centres.
Maheswar Reddy challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to visit procurement centres where grain stocks had remained piled up for several weeks.
