Orange alert issued for several Telangana districts as heavy rain looms

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for several districts in Telangana, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days.

The weather department said Wednesday and Thursday could bring widespread rain across the state. Northern, eastern and southern districts may witness the highest rainfall activity.

Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanamkonda figure among the districts under the warning.

The IMD also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several areas. Authorities advised residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is likely to reach the Kerala and Tamil Nadu coasts by Thursday. The advancing monsoon system could influence weather conditions across Telangana.

Several districts already recorded significant rainfall on Tuesday. Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem received heavy showers through the night.

In view of the forecast, officials urged farmers and the public to stay cautious. They also advised people to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
