Hyderabad: PV Sindhu began her Indonesia Open 2026 campaign with a straight-games victory over Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan and progressed to the second round in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The former world champion battled through a closely contested opening game before securing a 25-23, 21-16 victory at the Istora Senayan Stadium.
The win marked Sindhu’s 11th successive triumph over Busanan. It also improved her head-to-head record against the Thai shuttler to 21-1.
The Indian star entered the tournament after returning to the world’s top 10 rankings for the first time since 2023.

Sindhu will next take on either top seed An Se Young of South Korea or Turkey’s Neslihan Arin.
India also enjoyed success in the men’s doubles competition. Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun defeated Malaysia’s Tan Wee Kiong and Nur Mohd Azriyn in straight games.
The Indian pair registered a 21-18, 21-10 victory in just 33 minutes and advanced to the next round.
However, Lakshya Sen bowed out in the opening round after losing 21-19, 21-16 to Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan.
Alwi entered the tournament on the back of a notable victory over world No. 1 Shi Yu Qi at last week’s Singapore Open.
