Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao accused the Congress government in Telangana of ruining farmers’ livelihoods and failing to fulfil promises made to several sections of society.
Addressing a large gathering of party workers at Kodad in Suryapet district on Thursday, Harish Rao launched a strong attack on the Congress government and local party leadership. He also asserted that the future belonged to the BRS party.
The former Minister alleged that the Congress government had deceived unemployed youth, students, women and retired employees. He claimed that promises related to two lakh jobs, fee reimbursement for students and Rs 2,500 monthly assistance for women remained unfulfilled.
Harish Rao also alleged that assurances given to Muslim minorities had not been implemented. He accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of discontinuing welfare benefits introduced for minorities during the previous BRS government led by K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Mocking the Chief Minister’s governance style, Harish Rao remarked that the administration could be described as “Big talk, little action.” He alleged that the government made large promises while delivering poor performance.
Congress ruining farmers through failed welfare promises
Harish Rao alleged that funds allocated under the SC/ST Sub-Plan were not reaching beneficiaries. He further claimed that no benefits had been extended through the SC and ST Corporations during the Congress government’s tenure so far.
Praising the previous BRS government, the senior leader said large-scale development and irrigation expansion took place under KCR’s leadership. He referred to projects such as Kaleshwaram and Phase-2 of the SRSP project.
The BRS leader questioned whether Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy had succeeded in bringing Godavari waters to Kodad during his earlier tenure as Minister.
Harish Rao also compared paddy procurement under the previous and present governments. He said that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the BRS government continued the Rythu Bandhu scheme without interruption.
According to him, the previous government arranged special trains from Bihar to bring labourers for unloading paddy stocks during the pandemic period.
Congress ruining farmers with poor paddy procurement
Harish Rao claimed that the BRS government procured 93 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the COVID-19 period. In contrast, he alleged that the Congress government had procured only 17 lakh tonnes during the current Rabi season despite announcing a target of 90 lakh tonnes.
“While the Corona virus claimed human lives, this Congress government is destroying the livelihoods of farmers and tormenting them at every moment,” Harish Rao alleged.
