Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to continue intermediate admissions in Telangana as usual this year.
The Chief Minister took the decision in view of limited time for admissions and technical hurdles affecting the proposed merger of Intermediate education with the school education system.
He instructed officials to begin the admission process immediately to avoid inconvenience to students.
Intermediate admissions to continue amid merger delay
Meanwhile, the Telangana Education Commission had recommended replacing the Intermediate system with Class 11 and Class 12 grades on the CBSE model.
The Commission said the proposed system would help reduce student dropouts.
Officials noted that many states already follow the Class 11 and Class 12 structure.
However, Telangana still continues the separate Intermediate education system.
According to the Commission, many students studying in government schools up to Class 10 were not joining separate Intermediate colleges and were discontinuing education.
Against this backdrop, Revanth Reddy suggested integrating Intermediate education into the regular school system instead of maintaining it separately.
The Education Commission also supported the merger proposal.
However, discussions on suspending Intermediate admissions created anxiety among students and parents.
Revanth Reddy postpones merger process
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with senior officials and education department representatives on the merger proposal.
MP Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and Education Commissioner Yogita Rana attended the meeting along with other officials.
Revanth Reddy reviewed technical issues and challenges related to the merger and decided to postpone the process temporarily.
He directed officials to conduct detailed consultations with all stakeholders before taking a final decision.
The Chief Minister also asked the committee preparing the Telangana Education Policy to study the issue and submit recommendations.
Revanth Reddy clarified that the government would take a final decision only after discussions in the Legislative Assembly.
