Hyderabad: Communist Party of India criticised the handling of the NEET examination and demanded compensation for students amid allegations of repeated paper leak controversies.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, K. Narayana said irregularities linked to the examination process had severely affected the confidence of nearly 22 lakh students and their parents.
The CPI leader stated that only 1.3 lakh medical seats are available across the country, making the competition highly stressful for aspirants. He alleged that repeated controversies surrounding question paper leaks exposed serious flaws in the education system.
Narayana blamed successive governments for encouraging private corporate education systems, which, according to him, commercialised education and increased pressure on students preparing for competitive examinations.
He described the situation as a failure of the Union government to ensure a transparent and fair examination system and criticised the Centre over the handling of the NEET process.
CPI presses for NEET crisis compensation measures
Narayana demanded that the Central government provide compensation to all NEET candidates affected by the controversy and take strict action against those involved in the alleged paper leak incidents.
He also called for tighter regulation of corporate educational institutions and stressed the need to strengthen a transparent and student-friendly public education system.
The CPI leader further urged authorities to act against institutions that exploit students in the name of competitive education and examination preparation.
According to Narayana, the government must restore confidence among students and parents by ensuring accountability and preventing irregularities in future examinations.
