Warangal Regional Cancer Hospital to become state’s second-largest government cancer facility
Hyderabad: Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha announced that the Warangal Regional Cancer Hospital would become Telangana’s second-largest government cancer hospital. He said the upgraded facility would provide advanced cancer care to people from the undivided Warangal district and North Telangana.
The minister said the government would open the under-construction Warangal Super Speciality Hospital by the end of this year. He added that the hospital would serve as a major healthcare hub for North Telangana.
Rajanarsimha made the announcement during a review meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday. He and Minister Konda Surekha reviewed healthcare services in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Jangaon districts. MLAs Kadiyam Srihari, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Nayini Rajender Reddy, Revuri Prakash Reddy, Yashaswini Reddy and K.R. Nagaraju attended the meeting. Health Department Principal Secretary Dr Christina Z. Chongthu, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Dr Sangeetha Satyanarayana, Director of Medical Education Dr Vani, Director of Public Health Dr Ravinder Naik, district health officials and hospital superintendents also participated.
Warangal Regional Cancer Hospital to strengthen cancer care
The ministers reviewed healthcare services, infrastructure and ongoing development works in government medical colleges. They also assessed government general hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres and area hospitals across the three districts.
MLAs explained the healthcare needs of their constituencies. They also suggested measures to strengthen government hospitals. Rajanarsimha directed officials to examine the recommendations and resolve the issues immediately.
The minister said MGM Hospital now offers services in 29 medical specialities. He said the government would soon launch nine more super speciality departments. He instructed the Health Secretary to start the required preparations immediately.
The minister said the government would sanction Letters of Credit (LOCs) for the Warangal Super Speciality Hospital on the lines of NIMS. He added that officials would equip the hospital with advanced medical equipment, specialist doctors and adequate staff.

Rajanarsimha said the government would strengthen the general hospitals and medical colleges at Jangaon and Narsampet. He also announced plans to establish an IVF Centre and a Drug and Food Testing Laboratory in Hanamkonda.
He said the Regional Eye Hospital would soon offer advanced ophthalmic services. The government would appoint an Additional Director of Medical Education as the regular Superintendent of MGM Hospital.
The minister said the government had already sanctioned dialysis centres for Parkal, Wardhannapet, Station Ghanpur, Bachannapet, Palakurthi and Kamalapur. He added that officials would complete the required infrastructure before opening the centres.
Rajanarsimha said the government would examine the proposal to appoint an IAS officer as Special Officer to monitor government hospitals across the undivided Warangal district. He urged public representatives to continue raising local healthcare needs and support the development of government hospitals.
The minister said the government aimed to provide quality healthcare at the district level. He said it was strengthening human resources, infrastructure, advanced medical equipment, medicines and diagnostic services in government hospitals. He added that stronger district hospitals would reduce the patient load on NIMS, Gandhi Hospital and Osmania Hospital in Hyderabad.
