SBI cashier named prime accused in Mancherial bank scam

Hyderabad: Police identified a cashier at the State Bank of India’s Chennur branch in Mancherial district as the prime accused in a gold and cash scam that shocked the town. Chennur CI Devender Rao said cashier Ravinder, a native of Shatupalli village in Jaipur mandal, orchestrated the fraud.

At a press conference held at the local police station, the CI said the scam involved misappropriation of gold worth ₹12.6 crore and cash of ₹1.1 crore. The case was registered based on a complaint and audit report submitted by SBI officials. The incident had stirred wide sensation in the district over the past three days.

Customers assured deposits safe despite bank fraud

Police said Ravinder had been missing for the last three days. Special teams were formed under senior officers’ supervision to track and arrest him. Investigators also registered cases against nine other suspects linked to the fraud.

CI Devender Rao assured depositors that their interests were secure and urged them not to panic. He said the accused would be arrested soon and produced before court, ensuring justice for affected account holders.
