Telangana to hold Women’s Week celebrations from May 25

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government will organise Telangana Women’s Week celebrations across the state from May 25 to 31 under the Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika programme.

Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka directed officials to conduct the week-long celebrations on a grand scale. She said the programmes would focus on women’s empowerment, economic self-reliance, social security, education and livelihood strengthening.

The Minister chaired a high-level review meeting at the State Secretariat to discuss arrangements, programme schedules and coordination. Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Special Chief Secretary Dana Kishore, Commissioner Divya Devarajan, Women and Child Welfare Secretary Anita Ramachandran and Director Shruti Ojha attended the meeting.

Seethakka said the government aimed to strengthen women’s groups financially and socially. She also announced that the Chief Minister would inaugurate a solar power plant being established under women’s groups.

According to the Minister, the project would symbolise the economic strength of women’s self-help groups. Officials informed the meeting that authorities had prepared special programmes for each day of Telangana Women’s Week.

Telangana Women’s Week to feature welfare and livelihood programmes

On May 25, the government will inaugurate 100 village women’s association buildings that have completed construction. Authorities will also conduct foundation stone ceremonies for women’s association buildings in 8,000 villages across the state.

Besides this, the government will inaugurate 82 Anganwadi centre buildings. Officials will distribute Indiramma Mahila Shakti sarees to self-help group women and organise district-level loan melas.

On May 26, authorities will flag off 553 RTC buses operated by women’s self-help groups. The government will also inaugurate a Working Women’s Hostel in Hyderabad.

Special awareness campaigns against child marriage will be organised under the slogan “Balya Vivaham Bathuku Agam”. In addition, officials will conduct social mobilisation and awareness programmes.

District headquarters will host women’s safety programmes on May 27. Authorities will organise awareness seminars on the POSH Act and conduct training sessions for Local Committees and Internal Committees.

Officials said the government would not organise official events on May 28 due to Bakrid.

On May 29, the government will launch a special incubator programme for women entrepreneurs. Authorities will also unveil an anti-human trafficking policy and organise livelihood unit grounding programmes for women’s groups.

Further, mandal federation meetings will take place across districts. On May 30, officials will conduct the “Amma Mata Anganwadi Bata” programme.

Authorities will distribute uniforms to children at Anganwadi centres. The government will also organise celebrations for the “Ammaku Aksharamala” literacy programme aimed at improving literacy among women.

Seethakka directed officials to conduct Telangana Women’s Week in a manner that boosts confidence among women and provides a fresh direction for women’s empowerment across the state.
