Seethakka highlights education and girls’ empowerment at Women’s Week events

Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women & Child Welfare Minister Dr. Dansari Anasuya Seethakka said education remains the most powerful tool to transform lives and society, while urging adolescent girls to pursue leadership roles and build successful careers.

The minister attended Women’s Week programmes at the Rangareddy District Collectorate in Kongarakalan. She participated in the Sneha Groups Mock Parliament, the “Ammaku Aksharamala” literacy initiative and an Anganwadi uniform distribution programme.

Addressing the gathering, Seethakka said education enables people to rebuild their lives even after facing setbacks. She encouraged girls to aim for positions such as corporators, mayors, MLAs and MPs.

Quoting Nelson Mandela, she said education has the power to change the world. She added that values and discipline are equally important. The minister urged students to respect parents and teachers and grow into responsible citizens.

Seethakka said the government has formed more than 10,000 Sneha Groups covering nearly one lakh adolescent girls across Telangana. Through these groups, officials are conducting programmes on safety, health, nutrition, education and girls’ empowerment.

She also advised students to use mobile phones for learning, skill development and personal growth instead of becoming dependent on them.

“Even after marriage or in old age, your education and knowledge will remain with you. Every girl should set a goal and work hard to achieve it,” she said.

Girls’ empowerment drives government initiatives

Speaking at the Anganwadi uniform distribution programme, Seethakka said Mahabubnagar laid the foundation for ICDS services in Telangana. She recalled that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi launched the Integrated Child Development Services programme in 1975 to improve child nutrition.

The minister said the government is strengthening Anganwadi centres under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. She added that officials are focusing on nutrition from pregnancy until a child reaches three years of age.

According to Seethakka, the government now provides uniforms that were unavailable earlier. It has also distributed 57 types of educational and play materials to Anganwadi centres.

She said the “Tholi Mudda” programme provides breakfast, milk, eggs and nutritious food to children. The minister stressed that government Anganwadis offer comprehensive child development support and essential nutritional services.

During the programme, Seethakka distributed school readiness certificates to children who completed Anganwadi education and were preparing to enter Class 1.

The Sneha Groups Mock Parliament featured discussions on education, healthcare, cyber safety, transport, school infrastructure, appointment of women teachers and sanitary napkin distribution. Officials responded to questions raised by the participants.

SERP Chief Executive Officer Divya Devarajan said Seethakka’s interventions in the Assembly had often encouraged officials to examine grassroots issues more closely. She added that Sneha Groups provide a platform for girls to express their concerns with confidence.

Officials also highlighted the success of the “Ammaku Aksharamala” programme. They said the initiative has helped lakhs of women learn reading and writing skills and enabled many to sign documents instead of using thumb impressions.

Chevella MLA Kale Yadaiah, Women’s Commission member Sadalakshmi, Women and Child Welfare Secretary Anita Ramachandran, Director Shruti Ojha, Rangareddy District Collector Narayana Reddy and other officials attended the event.
