Telangana to hold women’s week celebrations from May 25

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will organise women’s week celebrations across the state from May 25 to 31 to strengthen economic, social and political empowerment of women.

The programme forms part of the Praja Palana-Pragathi Pranalika initiative. The government plans to involve rural women, self-help groups, youth, girls, differently-abled persons and elderly women in week-long activities.

Officials will focus on economic self-reliance, livelihood expansion, social security, health, safety and infrastructure development during the women’s week celebrations.

The government will organise special meetings, awareness drives and infrastructure inaugurations from village to district level. Authorities will also conduct livelihood grounding programmes and loan melas.

A major highlight of the celebrations will take place on May 29 in Hyderabad. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will launch an incubator programme for women entrepreneurs. He will also participate in grounding of livelihood units.

Women’s week celebrations to focus on livelihoods

Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka said the government aimed to transform women’s groups into productive economic forces instead of limiting them to savings groups.

She said the government was bringing bank loans, livelihood units and micro industries closer to rural women. Agricultural processing centres and solar power projects would also reach village level.

According to Seethakka, increased income in the hands of women would strengthen families and rural economies.

On May 25, the government will launch 0.5 megawatt solar power plants in Vikarabad, Khammam, Peddapalli and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts.

Women self-help groups will also operate 450 RTC buses flagged off during the programme.

Meanwhile, authorities will organise social inclusion programmes on May 26. Officials will identify eligible women, elderly persons, differently-abled persons and girls for welfare schemes and self-help groups.

On May 29, officials will conduct loan melas and livelihood grounding programmes. The government will also distribute battery vehicles to differently-abled persons.

Further, authorities will launch poultry units, micro industries and agricultural processing units across the state.

The state will organise women safety programmes, health camps and bicycle distribution for teenage girls on May 30 and 31.

Seethakka urged officials, women’s groups and public representatives to work together and make the women’s week celebrations successful across Telangana.
