Hyderabad: Egg prices Hyderabad have risen sharply, adding to the burden on consumers already struggling with soaring vegetable prices. Retail prices have increased from around ₹5-6 to ₹7-8 per egg. A tray of 30 eggs now costs ₹205 in the wholesale market.
Poultry farmers attributed the price rise to the prevailing heatwave across the State. They said high temperatures have reduced egg production because hens are consuming less feed.
Egg prices Hyderabad rise as production declines
Farm operators said heatstroke has also killed a significant number of birds. That has further reduced supply. As a result, demand has outpaced availability, pushing Egg prices Hyderabad to record levels.
Meanwhile, the increase has added to the burden on government schools and Anganwadi centres, where eggs are supplied under nutrition programmes. Hotel operators, bakeries and fast-food outlets also said rising egg prices were increasing their operating costs. Eggs remain an essential ingredient in many food items.
A trader with nearly 25 years of experience said he had never witnessed egg prices reaching the current level. He recalled that a similar spike had lasted only a few days about two years ago.
