Jupally Krishna Rao renews challenge to BRS over Telangana debt

Hyderabad: Jupally Krishna Rao on Friday renewed his challenge to BRS leaders K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and T. Harish Rao for a detailed public debate on Telangana’s debt. He said he stood by his earlier remarks and would resign if anyone disproved his claims.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, the minister alleged that the previous BRS government borrowed ₹7.3 lakh crore during its 10-year rule. He also claimed the government raised ₹74,000 crore for the Kaleshwaram project through special corporations.

He challenged KCR to publicly state that the previous government had not borrowed the money. He reiterated that he would resign as both minister and MLA if anyone proved his allegations wrong.

Meanwhile, he accused KTR and Harish Rao of giving different figures on the State’s debt at different times. He said he would send the relevant documents to them through WhatsApp.

He also rejected allegations that he had backed out of the debate. Further, he invited the BRS leaders to a discussion at the Press Club at 5 pm.

The minister also asked whether KTR and Harish Rao would resign as MLAs and dissolve the BRS if they failed to substantiate their claims on the State’s debt.
