Hyderabad: A major Madina fire accident occurred at SYJ Complex near Madina Chowrasta in Hyderabad’s Old City on Thursday, triggering panic in the busy commercial area.
The fire broke out at a cloth store inside the commercial complex. Thick smoke engulfed the surroundings after flames spread rapidly through the shop.
Large quantities of cloth stock intensified the blaze within minutes. Dense smoke covered the area as firefighters struggled to control the flames.
Fire officials rushed to the spot with eight fire engines after receiving information about the incident. Firefighters continued rescue and containment operations for more than two hours.
The flames later spread to the ground floor of the building. However, fire personnel quickly controlled the blaze in that section.
Madina fire accident raises safety concerns
Officials expressed concern over the closely packed commercial establishments around Madina Chowrasta. Authorities feared the flames could spread to neighbouring shops.
Meanwhile, police reached the spot and monitored the situation continuously. Traffic police diverted vehicles in surrounding areas due to the intensity of the fire.
Pathargatti AIMIM corporator Sohail Quadri was also seen at the spot assisting officials during the rescue and firefighting operations.
Police said nobody was inside the shop when the fire broke out. As a result, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Fire personnel continued efforts to completely extinguish the flames. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the fire or the extent of property loss.
Recent fire accidents in the Old City have increased public concern over safety standards in commercial buildings.
Residents questioned whether commercial complexes properly maintained fire safety systems and electrical infrastructure.
Locals urged authorities to conduct strict inspections and act against buildings that violated fire safety regulations.
