Telangana aims to become global tourism destination: Jupally Krishna Rao

Hyderabad: Telangana Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said the government aimed to transform the state into a global Telangana tourism destination and make tourism a major engine of economic growth.

The Minister attended the “Destination Telangana – Road Ahead” tourism conclave at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) in Gachibowli on Saturday. Authorities organised the event during Tourism Week celebrations under the state government’s 99-day Praja Palana–Pragathi Pranalika programme.

Jupally Krishna Rao said the government would provide full support for tourism sector development. He also said authorities would speed up tourism projects through private participation.

According to the Minister, the government introduced a new tourism policy to strengthen Telangana tourism destination plans and attract international visitors. Further, he urged industrialists and private organisations to invest in tourism projects across the state.

The Minister assured investors that the government would clear proposals quickly after receiving detailed project reports. Meanwhile, he said the state would provide full support under the Ease of Doing Business framework.

He also announced that the government was ready to allot unused properties on long-term lease for tourism projects. According to him, the move would improve project management and infrastructure development.

Telangana tourism destination plan focuses on infrastructure growth

Jupally Krishna Rao invited entrepreneurs to submit innovative tourism proposals. In addition, he said the government would soon issue Expressions of Interest (EOI) for selected tourism destinations.

The Minister stated that the government would bear the design and project estimation costs for selected agencies. At the same time, he pointed out that many tourist destinations still lacked drinking water, toilets, accommodation and restaurants.

He urged private players to establish modern facilities such as mobile glass houses and canvas tents. The government, he said, would extend complete support for such projects.

Jupally Krishna Rao said tourism was not limited to entertainment alone. Instead, he described it as a major sector capable of strengthening the economy.

He added that several developed smaller nations depended heavily on tourism growth. According to him, tourism expansion would also support allied industries and create employment opportunities for youth.

Further, the Minister said the government would build infrastructure capable of attracting domestic and foreign tourists. He also revealed that authorities were focusing on projects such as the proposed ropeway at Bhongir Fort.

Tourism and Culture Special Chief Secretary Vani Prasad, TGTDC Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, Tourism Director Lakshman Rajinikanth Naik, NITHM Director Venkataramana and Archaeology Director Prof Arjun Rao attended the programme along with tourism sector representatives.
