Hyderabad: Hyderabad biryani prices are likely to increase as restaurant owners face higher costs following a sharp rise in commercial gas rates.
Industry sources said the price of a 19-kg commercial gas cylinder had increased by nearly ₹1,000 in a recent revision. As a result, hotel and restaurant operators were considering raising biryani prices by up to ₹50 per plate to offset the impact.
Operators said the sudden hike had pushed the cost of a commercial cylinder from around ₹2,400 to nearly ₹3,400. At the same time, supply shortages have made procurement difficult, adding further pressure on businesses.
They said many establishments were struggling to secure cylinders in required quantities. In some cases, operators were forced to purchase gas in the open market at a premium of about ₹2,000, increasing operational expenses.
Hyderabad biryani prices linked to rising gas costs
Restaurant owners said the increase in fuel costs directly affected food preparation expenses. Therefore, they were left with limited options but to pass on part of the burden to customers.
They added that the current situation was influenced by global supply disruptions affecting oil and gas availability. These challenges have contributed to rising input costs across the hospitality sector.
In addition to Hyderabad biryani prices, vendors of Irani chai were also considering price revisions due to similar cost pressures.
Food outlet operators said frequent diners might soon feel the impact of these changes. They added that unless costs stabilise, further revisions could not be ruled out.
