Telangana Cabinet clears key proposals

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet approved a series of major policy decisions on Thursday. The proposals include large-scale recruitment for Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals, Phase-I works of the Musi Riverfront Development Project, expansion of school meal benefits and implementation of the Centre’s VBG Ramji Act while pursuing legal remedies against it.

Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Seethakka and Adluri Laxman Kumar, along with MLC Shankar Naik, announced the Cabinet decisions at a press conference held at the Secretariat.

The Cabinet discussed the Centre’s VBG Ramji Act and reiterated its opposition to provisions introduced without consulting the states. However, officials informed the government that other states had already accepted the law. The Cabinet then approved issuing a notification to implement it in Telangana from July 1, 2026. It said the move would ensure continued employment under the rural employment guarantee scheme. The Cabinet also decided to challenge the law in the Supreme Court and raise the issue in Parliament.

Further, the Cabinet approved extending breakfast, milk and midday meals in government schools and junior colleges to teachers, lecturers and other staff. Around 1.5 lakh personnel are expected to benefit from the decision.

Telangana Cabinet approves healthcare, Musi and education proposals

The Cabinet sanctioned 6,278 posts for the new TIMS super-speciality hospitals at Sanath Nagar, L.B. Nagar, Alwal and Warangal. The approvals include 1,494 regular, 549 contract and 4,235 outsourcing posts. The government also decided to develop these hospitals on the lines of NIMS. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to extend Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Letters of Credit (LOCs) for treatment at these facilities.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet granted administrative approval for Phase-I of the Musi Riverfront Development Project. The first phase will cover 21 kilometres. The project has an estimated cost of ₹7,345.12 crore. The Cabinet also approved the creation of 147 posts for the project. It further permitted the deputation of staff from other government departments.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the allotment of 50 acres in Bollikunta village of Warangal district and 10 acres in Karkalapahad village of Rangareddy district to the Telangana State Warehousing Corporation. The land will be allotted at market rates for the construction of warehouses.

The Cabinet also allotted 20.18 acres in Peddayipalli village of Mahabubnagar district and 19.12 acres in Kodad of Suryapet district for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. It further approved the allocation of 5 acres of government land in Chalgal village of Jagtial district for establishing a Kendriya Vidyalaya.
