Hyderabad CP Sajjanar honours father and son for exposing gas cylinder fraud

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar honoured a father and son for exposing a gas cylinder fraud and illegal LPG refilling racket in the city. The Commissioner presented them with appreciation certificates and cash rewards during a programme held at TGICCC in Banjara Hills on Saturday.

Sajjanar praised the duo for alerting police about illegal gas activities that affected consumers and endangered public safety. He said citizens who responded against illegal activities with awareness and courage helped build a safer society.

The father and son were identified as businessman Ashok Tiwari and his 16-year-old son Naman Tiwari from Chudi Bazaar. According to police, Ashok Tiwari booked a gas cylinder on April 21.

During delivery, Naman Tiwari noticed the cylinder weighed less than expected. He informed his father that a previous delivery also appeared short by nearly two kilograms.

The family checked the cylinder weight and found it measured only 28 kilograms instead of the required 30.4 kilograms. They also noticed that cooking gas was getting exhausted unusually fast in recent months.

Gas cylinder fraud uncovered through consumer complaint

When the family questioned representatives of Siddhartha Enterprises agency, they allegedly received rude responses. However, the father and son continued making inquiries into the issue.

They later found that agency employees were allegedly transferring gas from domestic cylinders into smaller cylinders and commercial units at a house in Jummerath Bazar.

The duo filed a complaint at Goshamahal Police Station alleging illegal gas refilling in crowded residential areas in violation of safety rules.

Police registered a case against Siddhartha Enterprises agency and five persons for allegedly cheating consumers and carrying out dangerous refilling operations. Officers arrested Sai Kumar, Vineeth Kumar, Poosa Ganesh, Praveen Kumar and Amit Kumar in connection with the case.

Police seized two commercial cylinders, seven domestic cylinders, 12 small cylinders and refilling equipment during the operation.

Sajjanar said the father and son acted like “policemen without uniforms” by questioning illegal practices and exposing the racket. He urged consumers to monitor the quality and quantity of products supplied to them and immediately report suspicious activities to Dial 100 or local police stations.

The Commissioner also warned that Hyderabad City Police would continue strict action against illegal gas refilling operations across the city.
