KTR promises support for hamali workers, targets Congress government

Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao on Monday assured continued support for KTR hamali workers welfare while accusing the Congress government of neglecting farmers and labourers.

Addressing the 18th Hamali Union conference at Mallapur, KTR said the BRS would continue working to resolve the problems of hamali workers. Former minister V. Srinivas Goud, MLA Bandari Lakshma Reddy, senior BRS leader Kyama Mallesh, union leaders and workers attended the programme.

KTR alleged that the Telangana government had failed to operate pumps at the Kannepalli Pump House under the Kaleshwaram project despite the availability of water. Moreover, he claimed the government was avoiding water release to farmers for political reasons. He also alleged that adequate water availability could benefit agriculture across Telangana.

The BRS leader accused the government of causing hardship to farmers by delaying irrigation. Furthermore, he claimed farmers were anxiously waiting for rains even as water was available in the Godavari River. KTR also alleged that land prices had declined after the Congress assumed office. According to him, the government was targeting BRS leaders with cases because they questioned public issues.

KTR hamali workers promise continued support

KTR said the previous BRS government had increased hamali wage rates from ₹8 to ₹26 and revised the rates every two years instead of once every five years. Additionally, he assured workers that the BRS would continue supporting their welfare, including health security and other labour-related issues.

He also claimed the Kaleshwaram project had expanded cultivation and strengthened agricultural production during the previous BRS government. Moreover, KTR alleged that the government was delaying water release because it would subsequently have to supply fertilisers, procure crops and pay bonuses to farmers.

He expressed confidence that BRS would return to power and appealed to party workers and hamali labourers to remain united. Finally, KTR thanked the Hamali Union for inviting him to its 18th conference and promised to work towards resolving workers’ grievances.
