ACB catches Rajampet SI allegedly taking Rs 30,000 bribe

Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Thursday caught Rajampet Sub-Inspector Duvvala Anjaneyulu allegedly accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe at his residence in Kamareddy district.

The ACB alleged that Anjaneyulu demanded the money from a complainant for granting station bail to the complainant’s son. He also allegedly promised further favour while filing the charge sheet in the case.

Officials trapped the Sub-Inspector while he allegedly demanded and accepted the money. Subsequently, the ACB recovered the tainted Rs 30,000 from his possession at his instance. The bureau said the Rajampet SI bribe involved an alleged misuse of public office for an undue advantage.

Rajampet SI bribe allegedly linked to station bail

According to the ACB, Anjaneyulu worked as Sub-Inspector of Police at Rajampet Police Station in Kamareddy district. The bureau alleged that he sought Rs 30,000 from the complainant in return for an official favour.

The alleged favour involved giving station bail to the complainant’s son. In addition, the officer allegedly offered to extend further favour while filing the charge sheet. The ACB caught him at his residence on August 20 while he allegedly accepted the amount.

Investigators recovered the tainted bribe money of Rs 30,000 from the officer’s possession, the bureau said. The ACB alleged that by accepting the money, the Sub-Inspector obtained an undue advantage. It further accused him of performing his public duties dishonestly and improperly. Officials withheld the complainant’s identity for security reasons.

Rajampet SI bribe case under investigation

Following the trap, the ACB initiated the process of arresting Anjaneyulu. The bureau said the accused officer would be produced before the II Additional Special Judge for Trial of SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the Rajampet SI bribe case continued. The ACB appealed to people to report demands for bribes by public servants. Citizens could contact the agency through its toll-free number 1064.

Complaints could also be sent to Telangana ACB through WhatsApp at 9440446106. The agency said people could additionally contact it through its Telangana ACB Facebook presence and X account. The ACB had also displayed its QR code at government offices and prominent public places across Telangana.

The bureau assured that the names and details of victims and complainants would remain confidential.
