Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy called on Congress workers to safeguard voter rights and ensure that no eligible voter’s name is removed from the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Addressing an awareness programme for Congress Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at MNR Gardens in Nalgonda on Saturday, he said protecting voter rights was the foremost responsibility of every Congress worker.
The minister said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was leading Telangana on a rapid development path.
He urged party cadres to work with commitment and dedication while strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.
Voter rights protection key during SIR exercise
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said Rahul Gandhi continues to campaign across the country to protect voter rights.
He urged party workers to follow the same spirit and remain vigilant at the booth level.
Meanwhile, the minister expressed concern that irregularities and omissions in electoral rolls could influence election outcomes.
He asked BLAs to actively participate in the door-to-door enumeration scheduled from June 25 to July 24.
Further, he directed them to thoroughly scrutinise the draft electoral rolls after election authorities release them on July 31.
He asked BLAs to identify discrepancies immediately and submit objections without delay.
The minister also criticised the rejection of the Rajya Sabha nomination of Congress candidate and Telangana Congress in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan.
He termed the development a violation of democratic values.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy described Meenakshi Natarajan as a committed Congress leader who dedicated her life to public service.
He alleged that authorities undermined democratic traditions by rejecting her nomination.
Additionally, the minister claimed that the SIR process in some states had led to large-scale deletion of voter names.
He said such developments had raised concerns about the integrity of electoral rolls.
Therefore, he urged Congress workers to remain alert and ensure that every eligible voter remained on the rolls.
Earlier, TPCC Training Committee SIR Chairman and Parigi MLA Dr T. Ram Mohan Reddy said BLAs play a crucial role in making the voter list revision process transparent and effective.
