Hyderabad: Former minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of diversionary politics after SIT notices followed allegations involving the Chief Minister’s relatives.
Late at night, officials delivered the notices at Harish Rao’s Siddipet residence, hours after he flagged what he described as a coal scam. He said respect for the law compelled him to travel from Siddipet to Hyderabad to attend the SIT inquiry.
At his Kokapet residence, Harish Rao told reporters that he was not intimidated by what he called “paper threats” from Revanth Reddy. He pointed out that no minister or Congress leader responded after the coal scam allegations became public.
While explaining his charge, Harish Rao said he exposed how leaders were allegedly fighting over shares like rival gangs. The timing, he claimed, unsettled the Chief Minister as municipal elections were nearing. As a result, he alleged, the government tried to divert attention from corruption issues.
Looking back, Harish Rao said he faced several cases and detentions during the united Andhra Pradesh period. As a Telangana movement activist, he described himself as a soldier shaped by KCR. He maintained that threats from Revanth Reddy would not deter him.
On governance issues, Harish Rao questioned the status of the Congress government’s six guarantees. Seeking clarity, he asked when the Mahalakshmi scheme for women and the promised ₹4,000 pension for older citizens would be implemented. He added that his party exposed alleged irregularities linked to the HIL policy, the power sector and land deals.
Harish Rao links SIT notices to election timing
Turning to water-sharing matters, Harish Rao accused the Chief Minister of betraying Telangana by allowing Krishna and Godavari waters to flow to Andhra Pradesh. He said he raised these concerns inside and outside the Assembly. He asserted that he would continue to oppose such decisions.
Drawing comparisons with earlier polls, Harish Rao said officials issued notices to KTR before panchayat elections. Ahead of municipal elections, he said authorities delivered similar notices to him. At the same time, he alleged, the government announced Bathukamma saree distribution and interest-free urban loans.
From his perspective, Revanth Reddy failed to withstand pressure from the BRS. He said the Chief Minister misjudged the recent sarpanch election outcome. In those polls, Harish Rao claimed, BRS secured victories in 40 per cent of the seats.
Linking the cases to electoral strategy, Harish Rao alleged that the government pushed inquiries to gain political advantage. He said earlier cases against him did not survive legal scrutiny. As an example, he cited the phone-tapping case that courts struck down.
Outlining his next move, Harish Rao said he would write to Union minister G Kishan Reddy seeking a CBI inquiry into the alleged coal scam. If claims of Congress-BJP collusion were false, he said, a probe was necessary.
Further, Harish Rao sought an investigation into alleged irregularities involving Revanth Reddy and his brother-in-law. He demanded cancellation of all related tenders, including the Naini block. Questioning the BJP’s silence, he asked why Kishan Reddy had not spoken while, he alleged, Singareni funds financed events.
Expressing faith in the judiciary, Harish Rao said he committed no wrongdoing. Calling the case a political drama, he asserted that he would attend inquiries whenever summoned. He warned that he would continue to expose corruption and question the government.
