Hyderabad: Telangana is formulating a Gig workers welfare policy. The policy will provide social security, insurance coverage and health protection for platform-based workers, Labour Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy said on Monday.
Addressing a media conference after completing one year in office, the minister outlined departmental achievements. He also highlighted the government’s focus on welfare, industrial growth and employment generation.
Vivek said the government worked during the past year with a clear focus on welfare, investment promotion and job creation. Moreover, he reiterated its commitment to fulfilling election promises.
The minister said the government is taking steps to ensure minimum wages for workers. Additionally, it is strengthening labour rights protection across the state.
Gig workers welfare policy focuses on social security
Vivek said the proposed Gig workers welfare policy will provide social security benefits and healthcare support. It will cover workers engaged in app-based and platform services.
Meanwhile, the government is promoting industrial growth and attracting new investments. As a result, local youth will gain more employment opportunities.
Highlighting skill development efforts, Vivek said the government is equipping young people with industry-relevant skills. Consequently, their employability will improve.
He announced an Advanced Technology Centre in Chennur. The centre will offer modern training programmes aligned with industry requirements. Further, it will help unemployed youth secure better job opportunities.
Gig workers welfare policy announced alongside anti-mining drive
The minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to curb illegal mining and sand transportation.
He said enforcement teams are continuously monitoring violations. Therefore, authorities will take strict action against offenders. They will also act against activities that cause revenue losses to the state.
Vivek highlighted measures under the Indiramma Housing Scheme. Under the programme, the government is supplying free sand to beneficiaries. This step aims to reduce construction costs for poor families.
According to the minister, authorities introduced greater transparency in sand distribution. As a result, eligible beneficiaries can access supplies without difficulty.
However, the government continues to monitor illegal sand activities closely. It aims to ensure that housing construction projects proceed without disruption.
Vivek said the government will accelerate welfare and development programmes in the coming years. Ultimately, the administration aims to make Telangana a model state for the country.
