Hyderabad: Peddapalli Congress MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna on Monday visited Singareni Collieries’ 11 Incline Mine in Godavarikhani, travelling nearly 6 kilometres underground to assess safety conditions and hear workers’ concerns.
Wearing standard Singareni gear, the MP conducted an on-site inspection along with SCCL officials and Congress leaders. He interacted with coal workers and assured them of continued support. “Coal miners are the backbone of the economy, and their safety is our highest priority,” he said.
Workers demand tax relief, pensions, medical board
During the visit, miners raised several long-standing demands. These included income tax exemptions, creation of a dedicated medical board, and pensions for contract workers. Vamsi said he had already raised these matters with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He pledged to pursue the issues in both Parliament and with the state government.
The MP also offered prayers at the Durga Devi temple located inside the mine campus and urged officials to bolster safety measures, especially for women workers. He reiterated his earlier call for a ₹10,000 pension for Singareni holiday workers and housing for all miners.
Local SCCL General Manager Lalit Kumar, Congress leader Mallikarjun, and Mancherial District Congress President Raghunath accompanied him during the inspection.
