Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the ongoing Telangana SIR exercise to August 3. It also released a revised schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State.
According to the revised schedule, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will continue the door-to-door enumeration exercise until August 3. The survey had commenced on June 25.
Thereafter, the Commission will publish the draft electoral roll across Telangana on August 10.
Telangana SIR revised schedule announced
After the draft publication, voters can file claims and objections from August 10 to September 9. During this period, eligible citizens can apply for inclusion in the electoral roll or seek corrections to existing entries.
Meanwhile, election officials will issue notices and dispose of claims and objections between August 10 and October 8. Thereafter, the Commission will publish the final electoral roll on October 12.
The extension follows representations made by political parties over the pace of the revision process. Earlier, a Congress delegation led by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy to seek more time, citing slow progress across several constituencies.
Further, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) also raised concerns with the State Election Commission. The party alleged that voters in some areas had not received enumeration forms. Subsequently, the State Election Commission forwarded these representations to the ECI.
Accordingly, the Commission extended the deadline from July 24 to August 3.
