ECI extends SIR deadline in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It has also released a revised schedule for the exercise. The new deadline is November 20 in Andhra Pradesh and November 26 in Telangana. The commission will publish the final voter list on November 30.

The ECI extended the deadline to complete voter registration, correction of details and collection of enumeration forms efficiently. It issued the official orders after considering requests from the chief electoral officers (CEOs) of the two states and from political parties.

Under the revised schedule, people and new voters get extra time to submit applications. The ECI also applied the extended deadline to the receipt of claims and objections.

Booth-level officers to visit homes

Booth-level officers (BLOs) will go door to door in villages and towns, officials said. They will record the details of remaining eligible citizens. They will also give senior citizens and differently abled people the help they need.

Officials will examine the claims and objections received under the extended deadlines at the field level and resolve them. The ECI has appealed to all eligible voters to use the extended window and verify their names.
