Hyderabad: Election officials issued SIR notices to overseas voters over discrepancies in electoral roll details. Family members can appear at hearings on behalf of voters who live abroad.
Indian citizens living overseas continue to retain their voting rights in India. Their family members had already submitted forms to map their details during the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll.
However, officials found errors and unclear voter identification details in some forms. They are now issuing notices to seek clarification about discrepancies, unmapped voters and related issues.
Overseas voters who cannot attend hearings in person can ask their family members to appear on their behalf. Officials said representatives can submit the required information and supporting documents during the hearing.
The authorities also clarified that voters need not worry if original documents are unavailable. They can submit correct photocopies of valid documents from the 12 approved categories.
Officials stressed that the documents must belong to the concerned voter and contain accurate information. They will examine the documents along with the voter’s details before taking further action.
SIR notices overseas voters can address through family members
Family members can therefore participate in the verification process when overseas voters cannot attend personally. They must provide the necessary documents and details to support the voter’s records.
Officials said they would consider photocopies when originals were not available at the hearing. However, the copies must clearly establish the voter’s identity and other required details.
The verification process will continue after officials examine the submissions. Authorities will take further action according to the applicable SIR rules.
