Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police arrested 10 accused in the Yavan murder case involving Bommana Yavan alias Akhil, a 21-year-old BTech student whom attackers killed in Chilkalguda earlier this month.
Police said the murder took place on the night of May 7 at Indira Nagar Colony in Medibavi. Investigators said the accused planned the attack following a personal dispute linked to a love affair.
According to police, around 10 accused attacked Yavan with knives and inflicted severe injuries on his neck and other body parts before fleeing the spot.
The victim’s father Srinivas later lodged a complaint at Chilkalguda police station. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and began an investigation.
Yavan murder case linked to personal rivalry
Police identified Allaboina Sai Kiran alias Sai as the prime accused in the case. Investigators said Yavan and a woman named Chandrika were in a long-term relationship.
According to police, Sai Kiran wanted to marry Chandrika and developed a grudge against Yavan.
Investigators said the accused held meetings several days before the murder and tracked the victim’s movements before carrying out the attack.
Police arrested nine accused persons and detained one juvenile in conflict with law. Officers also seized a knife, blood-stained clothes, an electric scooter and multiple mobile phones used in the crime.
Secunderabad Zone DCP Rakshitha Krishna Murthy, Additional DCP J Narsaiah and ACP Shashank Reddy supervised the arrests.
Hyderabad police also warned people against revenge attacks, intimidation and spreading provocative content on social media. Police said they would take strict action against anyone attempting to disturb public order.
