SCR launches World Environment Day 2026 awareness campaign

Hyderabad: South Central Railway on Friday launched the World Environment Day 2026 curtain-raiser programme at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad under the theme “Climate Change – Focusing on the Challenges to Mother Earth.”

SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava administered the Environmental Pledge and led a signature campaign in the presence of senior railway officials, staff and Railway Protection Force personnel.

According to Railway Board directives, SCR will conduct a three-week awareness programme from May 15 to June 5 across railway divisions, stations, colonies, workshops, field units and administrative offices.

The campaign will also include outreach activities under the Mission LiFE initiative to encourage environmentally responsible behavioural changes among the public.

Addressing the participants, Srivastava said the pledge was a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the environment through sustainable and eco-friendly practices.

He said this year’s activities would focus on climate change awareness, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, clean air, green spaces and scientific waste management.

Additionally, the campaign will promote e-waste handling and support the goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions in Railways.

Earlier, Vinod Kumar highlighted SCR’s ongoing initiatives in afforestation, elimination of single-use plastics, waste management, water conservation and renewable energy promotion.

Officials said the campaign would strengthen environmental awareness among railway employees and the public across the SCR network.

They added that the outreach programmes would encourage sustainable practices and long-term environmental responsibility.
