Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju directed district administrations to remain on high alert following the India Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy rains across the State over the next two to three days. He instructed officials to take all precautionary measures so the public does not face inconvenience.
The Chief Secretary held a teleconference with District Collectors, Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Tuesday. During the meeting, he reviewed the weather situation, the Agriculture Department’s contingency plan and the ongoing Vanamahotsavam programme.
Sanjay Jaju said five to six districts had received normal rainfall. However, 26 districts continued to face a rainfall deficit. He said the Agriculture Department had organised seed fairs across the State as part of its contingency plan.
Meanwhile, the administration stood ready to assist farmers who chose alternative crops. The Chief Secretary asked district officials to ensure farmers received timely support wherever required.
Heavy rains trigger statewide alert
Referring to the latest IMD forecast, Sanjay Jaju said heavy rains were likely across Telangana over the next two days. Accordingly, he directed all district officials to remain vigilant and strengthen coordination among departments for an effective emergency response.
The State government positioned National Disaster Response Force teams in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu and Nirmal districts. In addition, authorities will send NDRF teams from Hyderabad and other major centres to affected areas whenever necessary.
Principal Secretary Ahmed Nadeem, Secretaries Dasari Harichandana and Surendra Mohan, along with other senior officials, participated in the teleconference.
