Hyderabad: The Telangana government is focusing on Tourism revenue generation and other resource-based sectors as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the state’s finances and create long-term economic growth.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka made the remarks during a meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Resource Mobilisation at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat. Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao also attended the meeting.
Bhatti Vikramarka said the government should fully utilise available resources to increase revenue. He stressed that government lands and assets located in tourist destinations must contribute to wealth creation and economic activity.
Tourism revenue generation through PPP projects
The Deputy Chief Minister directed officials to aggressively promote temple tourism, eco tourism and health tourism across Telangana. Moreover, he suggested preparing plans for weekend helicopter tourism to attract more visitors and expand tourism offerings.
He instructed officials to take up tourism development projects in Srisailam and the backwaters of Nagarjuna Sagar. According to him, tourism can generate employment, support local businesses and contribute significantly to economic growth.
Bhatti Vikramarka noted that several tourism assets across the state remain underutilised. Therefore, he directed officials to develop them through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models.
He asked departments to prepare a comprehensive PPP-based tourism development action plan and place it before the Cabinet. In addition, officials were told to submit related policy proposals for consideration.
Tourism revenue generation linked to resource utilisation
The Cabinet Sub-Committee reviewed desiltation activities at Lower Manair, Upper Manair, Medigadda and other locations. During the discussions, the committee expressed support in principle for granting permissions to crusher units that comply with all statutory regulations.
The members also observed that Robo Sand is available at a lower cost than river sand. Consequently, Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to study the feasibility of exporting sand to neighbouring states.
The committee further reviewed revenue mobilisation through industrial land regularisation and examined measures to increase collections in the Transport Department.
Tourism revenue generation among broader revenue measures
Officials informed the committee that property registrations have increased significantly across the state. They also reported positive outcomes from the slab-based revision of land values.
Furthermore, the committee discussed legal and policy issues related to Bharat Series (BH) vehicle registrations. Bhatti Vikramarka directed officials to organise a meeting of Transport Ministers from southern states to discuss taxation matters linked to BH Series vehicles.
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that revenue generation should remain a priority across departments and emphasised that effective utilisation of state resources would support Telangana’s long-term development goals.
