SIT is now a “Scripted Investigation Team”, says Harish Rao amid Singareni scam allegations

Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRS Legislature Party Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao on Friday launched a strong attack on the Congress government. He accused it of large-scale corruption in Singareni Collieries and using the SIT as a political weapon to suppress the opposition.

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao dubbed the Special Investigation Team a “Scripted Investigation Team.” He alleged that selected information was being deliberately leaked to the media to malign BRS leaders. “Ninety percent of these leaks are false and aimed purely at character assassination,” he asserted.

BRS demands judicial probe into ₹500 crore solar tender scam

Harish Rao said Singareni, once hailed as “Telangana Sirula Gani,” had now turned into “Srujan Gani” under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership. He accused the government of protecting the CM’s brother-in-law, Srujan Reddy. Additionally, he claimed irregularities in coal contracts, solar projects, explosives procurement, and OB (overburden) tenders.

He demanded a judicial inquiry, either by a sitting High Court judge or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). “If Revanth Reddy has nothing to hide, let him order a probe into his own relative,” Harish Rao challenged. He compared the alleged scam to the UPA-era coal scandal. Moreover, he warned that it could be Congress’s undoing at the national level.

Harish Rao also highlighted that the Union Coal Ministry held an emergency meeting on Singareni for the first time in history. He said this was evidence of the seriousness of the issue. Moreover, he accused the Congress and BJP of political collusion, pointing out that SIT notices were served to him and K.T. Rama Rao soon after they exposed Srujan Reddy’s alleged involvement.

On the solar tenders, Harish Rao alleged nearly ₹500 crore exchanged hands due to tender manipulation. A 107 MW project, he said, was bundled into a single contract to sideline MSMEs and drive up costs. “Despite Singareni offering the land, the cost per MW jumped to ₹5.04 crore,” he said. He also pointed to another 67 MW project allegedly awarded at nearly twice the national average. Additionally, he blamed altered site visit terms for favouring select firms.

Despite legal threats, Harish Rao said BRS would continue to expose corruption. “We are not afraid of cases or notices. We’ll reveal the truth every single day,” he declared.
