Revanth Reddy submits memorandum seeking rice procurement, dues release

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy submitted a memorandum seeking boiled rice procurement and release of pending dues from the Centre.

Revanth Reddy, along with Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, met Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution Prahlad Joshi in Delhi. During the meeting, they submitted a memorandum outlining key demands related to procurement.

The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that paddy harvested during the Yasangi season is suitable for producing boiled rice. He also presented data on Custom Milling Rice supplied over the past six seasons.

Meanwhile, he said the state expects around 90 lakh metric tonnes of paddy production this Yasangi season. The harvested crop, he added, is suitable for milling into parboiled rice.

Boiled rice procurement proposal includes 30 LMT supply from Telangana

Accordingly, Revanth Reddy stated that Telangana is ready to supply 30 LMT of parboiled rice with 5 per cent broken content. In addition, the state can supply 5 LMT of raw rice with 10 per cent broken content.

He noted that officials from the Union ministry had earlier suggested increasing boiled rice supply due to rising national demand. Moreover, he highlighted that Telangana ensures timely payments to farmers within 48 hours of procurement.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, in response, gave in-principle approval for the proposal. However, further decisions will follow due process.

Further, the Chief Minister urged the Centre to release pending arrears of ₹1,468.94 crore. These dues relate to additional levy procurement from the 2014–15 Kharif season.

He pointed out that delays in releasing funds are affecting the state Civil Supplies department. Therefore, he requested immediate clearance of the pending amount.

In addition, Revanth Reddy appealed to resume distribution of fortified rice kernels. He said the scheme supported nutrition in schools, hostels and ICDS centres but was recently halted.

Officials from the state government and the Union ministry attended the meeting.
