Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said the government would take up Kaleshwaram barrages repair through a scientific approach after completing ongoing studies.
He said the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages had suffered damage due to lapses during the previous regime. He added that detailed investigations were underway.
Reddy said the government was working with the National Dam Safety Authority and CWPRS experts. He also said specialists from IIT Mumbai were assisting in advanced testing.
He said all investigation tests were expected to conclude by the end of April. Permanent works under the Kaleshwaram barrages repair plan would begin after the monsoon.
He added that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would soon visit the sites to review progress.
Coordination key to Kaleshwaram barrages repair
Reddy met Anil Kumar Jain, Chairman of the National Dam Safety Authority, in New Delhi on Friday. Reddy discussed the repair and rehabilitation plan.
He briefed the chairman on safety measures being taken to avoid past lapses. He said the government was ensuring strict monitoring.
Anil Kumar Jain expressed satisfaction with the ongoing studies and testing process. He said he would visit the barrage sites soon to review the work.
