Kavitha demands Jayashankar statue at Tank Bund before August 6

Hyderabad: TRS chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha demanded that the state government install a Jayashankar statue on Hyderabad’s Tank Bund before August 6, the birth anniversary of Professor K. Jayashankar.

Addressing the media at the TRS office in Banjara Hills on Telangana Formation Day, Kavitha said it was unfortunate that the state had not erected a statue of Professor Jayashankar on Tank Bund even after 12 years of Telangana’s formation.

She urged the government to complete the installation before August 6. If the government failed to do so, it should permit her organisation to undertake the project, she added.

Kavitha also extended Telangana Formation Day greetings and paid tributes to martyrs and activists who participated in the statehood movement.

Jayashankar statue demand takes centre stage

The TRS chief said Telangana movement activists deserved proper recognition and respect. She urged the government to preserve the spirit of the movement and pass its legacy on to future generations.

According to Kavitha, the state should honour every individual who contributed to the Telangana struggle. She also called on the government to recognise leaders who played a key role in achieving statehood.

Kavitha demanded justice for the families of Telangana martyrs by July 2. She warned that her organisation would launch a land agitation at Uppal Bhagayath if the government failed to respond.

The TRS chief also said a Vanta-Varpu protest would follow if the administration continued to ignore the demands. She maintained that the Congress government had a responsibility to protect the legacy of the Telangana movement.

Kavitha said the sacrifices made by martyrs and activists should never be forgotten. She added that governance should reflect the aspirations and ideals that inspired the Telangana statehood movement.
