Hyderabad: Karimnagar police cracked the PMJ jewellery robbery case in Jyothinagar and arrested three members of an interstate robbery gang linked to the crime.
Police Commissioner Ghaus Alam said the accused were part of a dangerous interstate gang. He added that police teams treated the PMJ jewellery robbery investigation as a major challenge and solved the case through coordinated efforts.
During the investigation, police found that notorious gangster Subodh Singh, known as “The Golden Thief,” masterminded the robbery from a Bihar jail.
Police arrested the main accused, Raghunath Karmakar alias Jagir Singh, along with Ravish Kumar and Mehtab Khan.
PMJ jewellery robbery gang used fake identities
Police seized Rs. 51,000 in cash, two mobile phones, two SIM cards, and fake Aadhaar cards from the accused.
The Commissioner said the gang members reached Telangana nearly two months before the robbery. They conducted reconnaissance in Khammam, Siddipet, Peddapalli, and Karimnagar before executing the crime.
Meanwhile, the accused used fake bike number plates and forged identity cards to avoid detection by police.
The Commissioner said the gang entered the PMJ jewellery store on May 3 and threatened four staff members with firearms. The accused also opened fire on employees who resisted them.
Police said the gang escaped with 161.4 tolas of gold worth around Rs. 82.02 lakh and 112 carats of diamonds.
The Commissioner said police formed five special teams to trace the remaining accused and recover the stolen jewellery.
He assured traders that police would arrest the absconding accused soon and strengthen security measures in commercial areas.
