Caretaker arrested for robbing elderly woman in Hyderabad, stolen property recovered

Hyderabad: Tolichowki Police arrested a caretaker for allegedly robbing a 77-year-old woman at her residence and recovered stolen property worth ₹18,000.

The caretaker arrested in the case was identified as 45-year-old Punna Kumara Swamy, a native of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh.

According to police, the incident occurred on May 31 at the residence of Asha Saxena in Aditya Nagar, Tolichowki. The elderly couple had engaged the accused through Shyam Home Care Services.

Police said the accused allegedly wrapped a bedsheet around the woman’s neck and attempted to assault her before attacking her physically.

After the attack, he allegedly fled with two Samsung mobile phones, four artificial bangles and a black-bead chain.

Caretaker arrested while trying to sell stolen property

Acting on credible information, police tracked the accused and apprehended him at Pot Market in Secunderabad.

Investigators said he was allegedly trying to sell the stolen property and escape to his native place in Andhra Pradesh.

Police recovered the stolen articles in full during the operation.

Officials said the swift action helped them solve the case within a short period and prevent the accused from leaving the city.

Caretaker arrested has criminal history, police say

Investigators revealed that the accused has a criminal background and faces multiple cases registered at different police stations.

The police team collected evidence and completed the investigation before taking the accused into custody.

Inspector L. Ramesh Naik, Additional Inspector G. Balraj, DSI S. Ravi Kumar and the Crime Team of Tolichowki Police Station cracked the case.

ACP Syed Fiaz supervised the investigation, while DCP G. Chandra Mohan guided the operation.

Police produced the accused before a court for further legal proceedings.
