Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police intensified a special enforcement drive against vehicles using fake number plates after receiving a surge in public complaints. The drive targeted vehicles fitted with fake, tampered or unauthorised registration plates. Police said such violations contravened the Motor Vehicles Act and other legal provisions.
During the past week, police registered six criminal cases against people who allegedly used fraudulent registration plates. Officers said the accused tried to conceal vehicle identities, evade traffic enforcement and violate transport regulations. Police also identified and seized several vehicles during the operation.
Further, Hyderabad Traffic Police registered the cases under the jurisdictions of Jubilee Hills, Malakpet, Begum Bazar, Abids and Kachiguda police stations.
Fake number plates crackdown targets HSRP violations
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that only government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are legally permitted. The department said vehicle owners must not alter registration plates or use temporary stickers. It added that missing digits and customised number plates also violate the law.
In addition, the department reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against the use of fake number plates. It warned that offenders would face criminal prosecution. Police also said officers would immediately seize vehicles involved in such violations.
Moreover, the department urged vehicle owners to follow prescribed registration plate norms and traffic regulations. It said enforcement teams would continue special drives across Hyderabad. According to the police, the operations will strengthen road safety, ensure lawful road use and support crime prevention.
