Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand directed all police units to strengthen cyber crime enforcement and improve the State’s performance across national cyber security benchmarks. He said technology-driven policing remained the strongest tool to combat the growing threat of cyber crime.
The DGP reviewed cyber security, e-Zero FIR implementation and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) with officers from all police units through a video conference. He said Telangana should aim for a top position in the national cyber security rankings.
Cyber crime enforcement to focus on e-Zero FIR
Further, Anand said the Union government had expressed concern over the rise in cyber frauds, particularly digital arrest scams. He noted that the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) periodically assessed states on nine key performance indicators.
Meanwhile, the DGP said e-Zero FIR implementation had not yet reached its full potential. He directed officers to ensure its effective rollout across all police units. In addition, he appreciated T-SPARK and the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TCSB) for registering nearly 20 e-Zero FIRs within two days.
Moreover, Anand reviewed Telangana’s performance in national cyber security indicators. The State ranked 13th in e-Zero FIR implementation, 18th in money restoration with a recovery rate of 46.6%, fourth in the Grievance Redressal Mechanism, 16th in the Sahayog Portal, sixth in the Samanvaya Portal, 16th in social media performance, 15th in cyber security and eighth in capacity building.
Accordingly, the DGP directed officers to strengthen capacity-building programmes and information, education and communication activities. He also instructed them to make full use of the CCTNS in every cyber crime investigation.
