Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Thursday strengthened their joint efforts in the telecom cybercrime crackdown by holding a high-level coordination meeting aimed at improving detection, investigation and citizen protection against telecom-enabled fraud.
The meeting was chaired by TGCSB Director Shikha Goel. Senior officials from the DoT, the Intelligence Bureau, telecom service providers and the cyber security bureau attended the discussions. K Raja Sekhar, Deputy Director General (Technology), and Hemant Rathwe, Deputy Director General (Security), represented the DoT.
Telecom cybercrime crackdown targets SIM misuse and fraud
Officials discussed measures to curb the misuse of SIM Boxes, strengthen SIM card verification and prevent the fraudulent issuance of multiple SIM cards. They also reviewed mechanisms to identify suspicious mobile numbers linked to cybercrime complaints.
In addition, participants explored ways to counter international spoofed calls, VoIP-based fraud, telecom identity masking and phishing links. They agreed that closer technical collaboration would help improve the detection and investigation of telecom-enabled offences.
The meeting also highlighted the need for stronger coordination among the Department of Telecommunications, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), telecom and Internet service providers, and law enforcement agencies. According to officials, better information sharing and coordinated action will support faster cybercrime investigations and enhance public safety.
Meanwhile, TGCSB reaffirmed its commitment to using technology, strengthening inter-agency cooperation and adopting proactive measures to address emerging cyber threats and telecom-enabled fraud as part of the ongoing telecom cybercrime crackdown.
